Just wanted to let everyone know how I go about setting up my environment for each monthly theme. I use all art from my MGT as the children complete it. However, one of my few complaints I have using MGT is I wish they gave you either idea to decorate for the theme or a few cut outs to display so that when families walk in they see what you are working on that month. I spend about a whole day decorating and trying to make sure my room is set up in a way that when parents walk in they can see the theme.
Personally, I use a huge tree all year round in my reading area. I add items to my tree so that the theme is represented at all times. This, does take me a little while to prepare. I feel that having the theme present not only allows the parents to see but helps engage the children and build their interest on what you are learning. You can use it as a refresher to ask open-ended questions about what you are learning.
When, the kit arrives the first thing I do is open it and look at the teaching materials provided in my Mother Goose Time box. Then, I brainstorm ideas of how I can make that theme shine in the classroom environment. Next, I start working on the environment adding items to the classroom to showcase the theme for that month. I love that our Mother Goose Facebook page allows me to connect with other ladies that are using the same curriculum and gathering information how things worked or didn't for them and how I can change or add things.
After, the environment is set up then I focus on marking sure that I have each day in its bin and those extra items out for that week to make it easier. The great thing is usually the extra items I need I always have on hand or have easy access to getting. I feel the more you prepare the less time is taken away from learning on that day. If you don't organize prior then you may not have the items to do the activities for that day.
I'm blessed to have received my curriculum free in exchange for my honest feedback and opinion on their curriculum.
