This month, is off to a crazy start with a move around the corner and still working full time. My children were tickled pink to see that the theme was ocean this month. A great theme to end my program with. Thanks to MGT I have been able to use their curriculum for a little over a year now. I was introduced into this by another provider here on post and she had been using it as a homeschool program for her own daughter. She showed me one of her boxes and that's all it took. There was so much in the box that would save me time and still provide a great program for my families.
Since using MGT my program has got to explore many themes. My favorite has been the Ocean so far. I love the beach and ocean themes and love how the children in my program were so excited to jump right into learning and exploring with MGT. I love how they have broken down the Ocean into great subtopics. The first one was Seascape. Then, they broke that down into ocean water, ocean floor, ocean caves, ocean plants and coral reefs. There are areas that I have never talked about in detail in my ocean theme. I love that MGT took this into consideration when planning out there themes.
Ocean Water: We learned about ocean water. One of the Math games that we played was The Five Oceans. We talked about the oceans and looked at a map to see where they were located. Then we talked about a few fun facts about each of the oceans. The activity that they children loved the most was the saltwater art. They loved what the salt did to their paintings. The ones that used more salt created the most change.
Ocean Floor: We talked about different things that are on the ocean floor. We played numbered seashells in the sand. The children were more into just moving the shell into the sand. We talked about how the children could find Oyster on the beach and they could find them in the sand. The children made their oyster pearls and were pretending to be in the ocean after with them.
Ocean Caves: My children were floored to learn that there was caves in the ocean and what things might possible be living inside the caves. One child told me I was wrong caves are only for bears. Great learning topic since no one knew that there was caves in the ocean.
Ocean Plants: We opened that morning by taking about different plants in the ocean. The children said they knew that seaweed was in the ocean. We bought roasted seaweed from the local store to try. It was not a favorite with my daycare children. Then, we talked about how sushi had seaweed in it. I let each of them try a piece of California Roll. Many of the children loved it.
I was blessed to be picked up as MGT blogger and received my box for all 6 children in my care free in exchange for my feedback and opinion on how we felt about their curriculum boxes. Using MGT saves me time and helps ,me focus more on the children which is where the focus should be.
